Too Much and Not Enough is a therapeutic memoir and an explorative narrative about a particular type of personality structure known as Enneagram 4 and its borderline characteristics and emotional dis-regulation. This population has been known to be difficult for therapists to treat and families to tolerate and, most importantly, to accept and embody. Often asked to consult and work with these clients, Dr. Sattler knows this personality from the inside.

My favorite thing about this book was its length! As a firm believer in having a growth mindset, I love self improvement books – but it’s a pretty big pet peeve of mine when the book is mostly eloquent fluff and not enough focus on the improvement part. Tamra Sattler’s book is the perfect length as she gets right to the point and delivers her information in easy to digest chapters while still digging deep into the Enneagram Four personality.
I will say, I went into this book knowing nothing about Enneagrams or which one I am. That being said, I think Dr. Sattler did a great job describing how the Enneagram Four personality might manifest in someone’s actions, thoughts, or relationships in both healthy and unhealthy ways. This book was a perfect meld of a memoir touching on many of Dr. Sattler’s own personal experiences as an Enneagram Four as well as a guide toward helpful healing methods and modalities for overcoming certain aspects that usually go along with such personality types.
I actually found myself resonating quite a bit with what she had to say. I often describe myself as sensitive, emotional, and intense at times (haha) and while I didn’t identify with many of the more severe anecdotes within these pages, I did very deeply relate to feeling like “too much” and “not enough” all at the same time.
I felt that the helpful healing tips throughout were “simple” enough that anyone could try them while also being quite effective on a deeper level (having used many of them throughout my own healing journey.) Overall I think this short but in-depth book can be helpful whether you are an Enneagram Four, you know an Enneagram Four, or you have no idea what you are but are always interested in growth and healing!
**I have to say, there are a few triggering stories and details that unfortunately didn’t come with a warning on the page before hand – so if you are sensitive to certain personality disorder or mental health topics, please read lightly!

I received a review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you, Collective Ink Books
