A heartbreaking, suspenseful story that I immediately connected with on an emotional level! As a mother, it was sometimes hard to read as Ava and her young daughter Rose found themselves thrust in the middle of a murder scene.

Ava was a devoted mother and I connected with her as she longed to bring safety and normalcy back to her little family. Special Agent Nolan Shea gave an honorable and protective vibe and it was easy to like him while he fought to find the criminal behind all the suspicions surrounding a newly found victim.

I love the style of writing in this book when you genuinely have no idea who can be trusted and often times your predictions are wrong. The insecurity of who you can and can’t trust, as a reader, brings a whole new level of suspense to an already thrilling murder mystery.

This was not my first Susan Furlong book and it sure won’t be my last! Highly recommend this book and probably anything she writes will be equally fantastic!

Now, she lives in Illinois with her husband and children and writes mysteries of all types.
