A haunting, atmospheric modern Gothic horror tale based on traditional Irish mythology, from the author of smash hit The Watchers. Ancient evil is awakened on a lonely isle off the coast of Ireland.
TO LEARN THE TRUTH
WOULD YOU DESCEND INTO HELL?
Off the west coast of Ireland lies a lonely island, isolated and wilfully forgotten. Some say there hasn’t been a child born on the island for thirty years. Others speak of strange deaths there, decades ago. But no one really knows what happened. Locals believe that the dark times are behind them.
They are mistaken.
Grace, adopted at four years old, has never known where she came from. A mysterious phone call leads her back to the island where she was born – and where a terrible evil has been disturbed.
As the evil starts to spread, Grace finds herself dragged back into a living nightmare that threatens to engulf anyone who steps into its path.
Grace is perfect for fans of horror classics, Paul Tremblay, and Kealan Patrick Burke.
Purchase Grace

It has been a while since I picked up a true horror novel, and the paranormal theme in Grace immediately intrigued me. This book is part of a Rachel’s Random Resources tour, and I was excited to dive back into something eerie and unsettling.

From the very first pages, I was hooked. The atmosphere gave me strong Stephen King energy with a touch of M. Night Shyamalan mystery and even a little bit of Knives Out layered intrigue. It was eerie from the start. Secrets, danger, mysterious events unfolding, and an island that clearly was not what it seemed.
The story is layered and told through multiple points of view, some of them unreliable. There are flashbacks woven throughout that slowly reveal the past while building tension in the present. The setting is a small, isolated island town that feels almost dystopian in its detachment from the outside world. It was written in such a way that the rest of the world barely seemed to exist to these characters. The island life felt closed off, contained, and deeply unsettling.
The characters themselves were a mess. It was often hard to tell who was mentally stable, who was rooted in reality, and who was hiding something darker. The morality across the cast ranged from gray to outright black. I would not say I connected emotionally to any of them. The entire cast felt shrouded in darkness and cold, almost stripped of their humanity. That distance added to the overall tone of the book. And the tone is unapologetically supernatural. There is no subtle hinting about whether something paranormal is happening. This island is haunted. The murders are gruesome. The entire story revolves around uncovering what the islanders are hiding, who or what this evil entity is, and whether it can be stopped.

The ending stays true to the tone. Darkness lingers. Morality remains gray. Secrets are uncovered, but the unreliable perspective continues right through to the final pages.
This is not cozy horror. It is grotesque, supernatural, and steeped in secrets. Readers who appreciate dark island settings, morally complex characters, and heavy paranormal elements will likely find this one gripping.
Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this virtual book tour, Rachel’s Random Resources
